The latest version long shaft USB Joystick / Cyclic
The long shaft is the most advanced example of PC simulator control hardware available anywhere. It combines the mechanical engineering design experience of COPY CAT controls with the latest state of the art E.V.O Joystick from Saitek to produce a Hybrid stick that will open up new levels of control beyond the range of conventional short sticks. The conversion of the E.V.O is not just a stick with an extended shaft to make it look more like the ones found in some light aircraft, or like a helicopter cyclic stick, it is a totally new integrated mechanism which extends the sticks original mechanical performance far beyond that of ordinary tabletop joysticks.
The original stick i can be adjusted for left or right hand use, and has a full compliment of buttons and switches. All of these features remain functional within the long shaft conversion. The stick slides and locks into position on the main frame, plugs into your USB port and is ready to use.
Short stick verses long stick
Without going too deeply into control physics, short sticks encourage you to use a wrist action only,(Good for flying fast response combat sims) whereas, long floor mounted types encourage you to use both wrist and forearm (Good for helicopters, gliders, and some light aircraft.)
The problem is, you cant just extend the length of a standard short joystick without some sort of transitional joint to give the correct mechanical ratio. Without this mechanism you just end up with a stick that has to move a much greater distance in any direction in order to get a response. ( the exact opposite of what you need to control your helicopter sim). The converted E.V.O long shaft achieves fine control by translating small hand movements of the stick into higher ratio inputs by direct mechanical conversion. On the long shaft, we have made this facility adjustable. This combined with the user option to turn off the self-centering springs, will give you the ultimate helicopter cyclic control. (Turn the centering spring back on, set the stick to standard, and its ready to fly conventional fixed wing sims.)
